What I plan to do

1. The topic of this blog will be centered around poverty and possibly more specifically on homelessness.

2.

a. What, if any, is the causal relationship between one's religious perspective and the chance of them helping the impoverished.
b. What, if any, is the causal relationship between one's income and the chance of them helping the impoverished.
c. What, if any, is the causal relationship between homelessness and alcholism.
d. What if any, is the causal relatinship between one's economic status and their view of the impoverished.
e. What, if any, is the causal realtionship between one's religous perspective and a categorization of poverty.

3.

The purpose of part 3 is to show both my reader and myself my own bias and perspective.

I come from a family that I consider well off. My dad is the only one who works. My mom is able to be a "stay at home" mom. My dad came from a doctor's family, but my mom came from a farmer's family that was not especially wealthy. Often times I want to help poor people or homeless people. I'm trying to figure out if this is because I have compassion for them, or if I feel sorry for me. I see a big difference between the two. I often times feel as if it is dangerous to give money to the poor. When walking down the street, I normally try to walk quickly when passing by a beggar because he or she makes me very uncomfortable. I almost feel as if they are somehow dangerous. However, as a Christian, I am told to see them as Jesus. If I would help Jesus, I should help them. I alslo think I categorize poor people and homeless people as THEM. Notice how I will probably keep referring to THEM throughout the rest of my free write. I often times characterize homeless people as the lowest of society. Is this true? I think somehow this isn't true. It seems to be that many homeless people on Main Street defy different steretypes. This is unsettling because it means that my perspective has been wrong for quite a while. Not a good thing.
